"Madviolet's a "second wave" of a former band "Zoebliss" I stumbled upon in 1998 at a downtown Toronto bar, listening to another local band that's for all intensive purposes, history. Zoebliss, headlined by Brenley, offered a soultry trip-hop sound reminiscent of a Portishead, or somewhat of a softer Kelli Ali (Sneaker Pimps).
Now as Madviolet, Brenley joins Lisa MacIssac (yes, she's the sister of Ashley) to form a unique duo; Brenley with tremendous power and passion in her voice, and Lisa strumming her fiddle and adding to the vocals on this album. My personal favourites include "Light it up", and "Wake up" (a remake of "Sleeping in Hallow Trees" from their Zoebliss days - but a powerful addition to smack women out of the thought of being with terrible men - well done!), but the album as a whole won't disappoint - I've converted many, and escorted many friends to their concerts in the Toronto area! Take a listen!"
