Synopsis

Album Description
Jazz vocalist Madeline Eastman breaks new ground with her third CD, Art Attack. Eastman, as usual, surrounds herself with the cream of the jazz world including seminal drummer Tony Williams and pianist Kenny Barron. Eastman has received widespread national attention recording her last two CDs with jazz royalty Cedar Walton, Phil Woods and Tom Harrell. Highlights of Art Attack include an incendiary version of the classic standard GYPSY IN MY SOUL, a haunting collaboration wit the Turtles Island String Quartet on Wayne Shorters classic NEFERTITI, and a kickin' version of Monk's EVIDENCE featuring Madeline's original lyrics.

CD Reviews

One of my favourite discs
10/08/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I discovered Madeline Eastman quite by accident several years ago when someone bought me one of her other recordings as a gift knowing I was a big fan of jazz vocalists. This CD is her best, and one of my favorite discs overall. I have to strongly disagree that her sound is unattractive. I find her voice warm and expressive, her phrasing suberb, and her interpretations of these songs fresh and modern. I think she has excellent taste when it comes to choosing material, mixing old standards with songs other vocalists hardly touch. I love her rendition of "Say it isn't so" it's second to none, and the "I like you/I like you you're nice" combo is just a treat. I highly recommend this recording, and both of her others."
