CD Reviews

The Best lucksmihs yet
12/08/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Well, my first experience with the lucksmiths was there first us release, "A good kind of nervous". These were incredibly catchy melodic songs with clever lyrics, ala belle and sebastian, but with a bit more of a bite. Since then, they've progressed as musicians adding piano and horn to some of their numbers. There most recent release, the staring at the sky ep, finds the lucksmiths in peak form. Clever, catchy, but most of all, light and lovely, these six songs will stick in your head and in your cd player. It was my pleasure to see the band perform live recently, and i was thoroughly impressed! A real winner and a must for any indi/pop lover."
Beautiful, elegant pop

"The Lucksmiths make beautiful melodies seemingly effortlessly. I've loved all their albums and they seem to continue to just keep getting better and better. This latest Australian EP is no exception...6 achingly pretty songs, beautifully played and sung with smart and thought-provoking lyrics. A must-have for fans of Trashcan Sinatras, Housemartins, Billy Bragg or Neil Finn. Just Lovely...every note counts...if it were posible to wear out a CD I'd wear this one out."
Buy Happy Secret Instead!!!!

"Of course this is not a bad CD, it's quite reasonable; but it's completely unrepresentative of how gorgeous the music of the Lucksmiths really is.The songs just lack that something extra, the magical quality.Buy the Happy Secret CD instead, you'll be glad you did."
