CD ReviewsAN EXTREMELY DENSE MUSIC 03/07/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "I bought this album 5 years ago Ein 1996 Eand I did not like it very much. It took 4 years for me to understand the terrific qualities of it. As is usual with Cuban music, the pieces included in this album have intricate rhythms, but this expression is not enough to describe the magnetism of them. The groove of them consists of bass, percussions, and drums, each of which plays syncopated beats and frequently changes its pattern slightly. The more you concentrate on the changes of rhythm, the longer you want to listen to them. It is hard to get tired of it. Along with it, the improvisations of the flute and keyboard are full of originality as well as virtuosity. They sometimes play gentle phrases lyrically and sometimes play unbelievably quick melodies incredibly accurately. If you like Los Van Van, this album will be a treasure in your collection."
