Justo Roteta | Los Angeles, California United States | 09/19/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "The late Cuban sonero Fernando Lavoy recorded two great albums for the SAR label at the dawn of the 1980s. This superior set of Tipico-flavored Salsa contains six wonderful Guarachas and Son Montunos and is really a must-have for anyone who loves classic Cuban music. "Refrescate La Memoria", "El Mensajero" and "El Timbero Mayor" are all throwbacks to Cuban music's golden era (i.e. the 1950s!) and Lavoy's vocals and improvisations are nimble, street-flavored and on-point. I should point out, however that the opening track ("Guaguanco Pa'l Mundo") is not a Guaguanco as opposed to being an upbeat Guaracha but you'll be grooving on the dance floor as soon as it starts playing. Highly recommended."
