A 1988 Comeback For LIV

"Livingston Taylor has always been in the shadow of his superstar brother, James. There's no question that James has earned that status in his long and fabulous career. Some say that Livingston has only made it because of the famous family name, and others argue that he has had to overcome that label of being James's brother.

Yes, there are similarities from the tone of their voices right down to the style of music they perform. However, there's a uniqueness about Livingston that sets him apart from James. He has written many dark, forlorn, melancholy pieces like James, but overall,

Livingston has far more upbeat, happy-go-lucky songs of good times and just enjoying life. ( As we have here in the title- "LIFE IS GOOD!".)

"Life is Good" starts out with the title song and it is about a guy that is just as happy as can be! The song is set to a light but uptempo, jazzy swing, that gets you humming along. The second song,"One of Those Things" is in a similar vein and it has a light, upbeat tempo. Other standouts on this CD are- "City Lights", a slow reflective song sung with his brother James, "Loving Arms", another duet with a female vocalist that is a love ballad. This was also one of the Top 40 hits from this album back in 1988.

Throughout the CD, there's a nice mix between light jazziness, slow ballads, and fun lyrics written by Liv. The sound is very 80's sounding with the big production sound and heavy use of keyboards. This album is nothing like his early acoustic sounds of the 70's. It's warmer in mood but lacks the raw sound of his first three efforts. This cd is expensive out of Japan, but it is worth it if you are a Livingston Taylor fan. It's an album of feel-good music!! Also recommended is "Man's Best Friend" by Liv which is also available for the first time in years!!! Once again, it is a pricey Japanese import but the quality is great and the music is super!! Get them while they last!"
