CD ReviewsAN UNDERESTIMATED BUT THRILLING RECITAL Liu Ming | France | 11/24/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "Those who are used to the 1960's voice of la Callas will be taken aback when they listen to the first arias of this CD (you can compare it with the Hamburg recital she gave a couple of weeks later, when the voice was rather weak and unsteady) In this recital the voice is unusually firm and strong, the high notes are brilliant, full of light... This recital is just a miracle, is like listening to the Callas of the golden 1950's!! She rarely was in such a good shape. You will specially appreciate Oberon's "Ocean" (by far better than the studio version) and the Cenenterolla aria (full of grace and charm).
The sound quality is awfull, but it is definately a must for those who are interested in the evolution of Callas' voice." |
