"This underrated album spans a range of Hamp's work and is one of the jazz albums that even the uninitiated will appreciate. The music is genuine jazz which was all Hampton was about; but it lacks the dissonant sound and less easily navigable melody that often keep people away from exploring more jazz. The last cut- Stompin at the Savoy is as indelible and original of a piece of music; as truthfully jazz, as any you'll ever hear. And when you do hear it, you've heard it from the best. Many of the other standards are certain to lift you from whatever ordinary space you've arrived from. This album is a sure bet for almost anyone."
