CD Reviews

An Exceptional Italian Nu-Metal Band With Tons Of Promise

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Linea 77 were another band I heard of through that wonderful British rock magazine, Rock Sound. I had kept meaning to buy this CD after hearing them in the sampler, and fortunately I had a certain link to the band who got me this. I slapped it on before testing out any of the other promo material I had received that day, and man, did it rock. Every song was better than the last, and the potential I thought this band had was huge. The vocals are a bit strange, but always lead into big choruses from the other singer. As you may have figured, there are two vocalists. One is the rapper, and one is the singer, much similar to Zebrahead. The music is a cross between System of a Down, Incubus, Deftones, and Portishead, with something extra added on. They come from Italy, so I do believe I personally discovered the best thing to come out of that country since pasta. The whole thing is intense, and could easily be American mainstream music. The lyrics are a bit hard to understand though, probably because of, like Robert L. Thompson III said, their poor skills of the English language. A lot of the songs are fairly heavy stuff with call and answer type verses. The guitar is kind of fuzzy, yet very good. The drumming is consistent and fast, and the band's drummer is one of my favorites for his unique style. The bass is good and noticeable, a very great feature of the band. My favorite songs are the more melodic Swellfish, the ferocious Touch, the emotional By My Fay, the crushingly beautiful Headtide, and the oddly heavy Meat. Also check out Will Haven, Deftones, earthtone9, Skindred, Misery Loves Co., and Kill II This."

"I saw linea 77 play live in 2000 and they were absolutely amazing. I got this album, and the newer 'ketchup suicide' album, both are brilliant. The two vocalists have completely unique styles and create something I feel Nu-Metal has never seen before. From hardcore to melodic in an instant, this is the bands catchy method. I think that it is hard to compare this band to any other because they are so unique. With heavy bass lines, melodic vocals and some excellent riffs, this album is a must buy. This is Italian gold!, buy it keep, pleasure from it!!!"
