Synopsis

Product Description
The Lovin' Kind is the second release from 2006 International Blues Challenge finalists New York City based jump blues band Lil' Cliff and the Cliffhangers. The fun and good time music never stops and Lil' Cliff and the Cliffhangers keep right on making their trademark blend of West Coast jump blues, swing and down home blues with a healthy dose of New Orleans flavoring and 50's style vocal harmony thrown in. Demonstrating his unique voice and toe-tapping harmonica playing is Lil' Cliff Bernard. Whether it's the upbeat fun of Spank That Monkey written by the band's bass player Richard Street, or the mellow sounds of Doc Pomus' Lonely Avenue, Cliff brings the lyrics to life and makes each song his own. On upright bass and vocals, Richard Street brings seven original tunes to this new recording, and his musicianship shines through on every song. His lead vocal on the Leiber and Stoller classic Three Cool Cats is laid-back cool. You won't forget guitarist Dennis Phelps' tasteful playing, as he demonstrates an able hand at a variety of blues guitar styles from the acoustic blends in Cliff Bernard's original tune Creole Belle to classic blues guitar riffs in the Little Walter tune Up The Line (which also features Dennis on lead vocal). Holding it all together on drums is Frank Patterson. Dig his into into the Willie Dixon classic Twenty-Nine Ways (To My Baby's Door) and his solo beating on Spank That Monkey. Frank's love of big-band swing lays a solid foundation throughout this recording. So drop this new release into the player, and get ready to shake what your momma gave you!
