CD Reviews

What a tasteful, artistic display of virtuosity!

"From the beautiful opening track, I fell in love with the album. I was so moved by it that I wrote Lewis Nash and told him how much I dug his album. He wrote back within two weeks! Not only is he brilliant on the drum set, but he's also a gentleman. Check it out!"
Another gem from Lewis Nash!

"Lewis Nash has established himself as a major force in the modern generation of straight-ahead jazz musicians and arrangers. He's an energetic, superbly-talented percussionist with great focus and instincts; a true treasure in a genre that is rapidly losing mainstream interest. He's among those rhythm section stalwarts whose inclusion as a sideman on any other artist's project is enough to merit purchase. Lewis is also a great guy in person!

Eveything aspect of 'Rhythm Is My Business' is superb, from talented personnel (Nash, Steve Kroon, Steve Nelson, Mulgrew Miller, Peter Washington, Ron Carter, and Teresa Nash) to tight arrangements to fabulous song selection and dynamite solos. Those who appreciate true jazz craftsmanship will be able to listen to this CD on a continuous loop MANY times before tiring of it.

Quite simply, this CD is a 'must-own' for sophisticated straight-ahead jazz aficionados!"

"Nash.Lewis is something special. It is not often a new voice appears on the scene. You listen and in 10-15 seconds,ya,that's,lew nash.To his credit,he incorporates all the great drummers of the past and present.

As Tony Williams mentioned on numerous occasions,I constantly extracted ideas from others and reworked them into my own playing.Just as Nash has the tactful elegance and talent to use their influences only to build on his own 'sound'.As Stravinsky once said "I borrow from others constantly, but there is an art to extracting ideas from others, where else do you suggest I aquire my inspirations from?Tasteful,Big Ears, and Lewis will always suprise you with yet another idea,POW!He makes you listen. All these apparitions appear when he solos,Mickey Roker,Philly Joe Jones,Jimmy Cobb, and Roy Haynes,Art Blakey,Victor Lewis,Kenny Clarke,Elvin Jones,Tony Williams,Herlin Riley,Billy Higgings and 'Tain'just to name a few.The personnel for this CD are Mullgrew Miller(piano),Steve Nelson(vibes),Peter Washington(bass0,Steve Kroon,Teresa(on 'When You Return'),Ron Carter(bass)('Omellete'),and Lewis Nash(drums). The standout tune for me was ,'Sabaku',you should note Nash's playing on this tune,he is a great latin player. All those ideas!Over all, this is a great Great CD.Lewis Nash can be heard on two other superb CD's,JOE HENDERSON BIG BAND, and MULLGREW MILLER'S 'HAND IN HAND'.

Enjoy. Health and Happiness!
