CD Reviews

Don't miss out on this amazing album

""Leverage" is an up and coming Finish melodic rock-metal band on their 3rd album. I had just heard a couple of songs from their previous albums still I found out that the band's status and popularity somewhat excelled in Europe over the past 12 months; there was quite a bit of talk/appraisal amongst rock metal circles for this band. So I felt very intrigued to get their new album "Circus Colossus".

And the fuss was well deserved! The group has delivered a powerful, positive and classy third album. Each and every song on this one is a melodic experience; the secret of their success? The boys keep things very simple. Arena Riffs, big drums, a captivating lead singer and the largest choruses you could wish for; all this with the subtle support of orchestral instruments/arrangements.

The band consists of Valteri Revonkorpi (D), Torsti Spoof (G), Tuomas Heikkinen (G), Marko Niskala (K), Pekka Lampinen (B) and Pekka Heino (V) who I have to say is the focal point of the album. His performance is stellar throughout, he sounds very much like the aggressive/rock side of David Bowie blended with the commanding attributes of David Reece.

As said previously there is not an average track on "Circus Colossus" however the masterpieces stand out: "Wolf and the Moon", `Movie gods", "Rider of Storm", "Prisoners" and the unsurpassable "Revelation".

I will not hesitate to recommend "Circus Colossus" to anyone fan of rock and metal. This is a rock-metal album that can not be further classified, while its huge production, positive attitude and symphonic elements make it a perfect album for the Christmas season. You can not fail to enjoy this.

"Bad-a*#. One compound word describes it. Certainly in the Nightwish vein of big epic songs, with strong guitar + very good keys and piano. / Though it does have more of a concept to it, and was recorded with an orchestra and a choir I'm not sure Nightwish: Dark Passion Play is better than this. Great production and a unique singer ... just an AWESOME, kick-you-in-the-pants CD, front to back. Not for Norah Jones fans"
Run away with the circus and never go home again!

"Leverage is an amazing Finnish band that captures straght ahead hard rock and embellishes it with slightly progressive strokes. They are one of the most perfect blends of metal, hard rock, melodic rock, and progressive that I have ever heard. For those of us especially in the US that are radio starved for new amazing hard rock, throw your FM tuners out the window and buy this CD. It is worth the import price. (At this moment it still hasn't been released domestically...same old story!) Check out "The Wolf and the Moon" on YouTube---it's a classic. The circus has come to town...get your tickets and come on down!"
