CD Reviews

The beat that fell unto perfection
Eric T. Peterson | 12/03/1998
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Spaced between a somber album and world money maker, this album proves that the playing of Philip Gould was much like the force that keeps matter together. Each member plays well and the musicianship is very good for a live performance. But the crown jewel belongs to Hong Kong native, Philip Gould, who plays with a control and vibrancy that few could ever emulate and no one could ever match. No candle burns forever, but the light that burned off of Philip's playing on this CD shines with every revolution inside my CD player...He is just that good."
A truly brilliant album!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album shows the true passion and dedication that we all know from Level 42. It's amazing how a four piece band can sound like a six piece. There very tallented, and serious about there music and consistancy of a well trained band. Mark King and his royal thumb slinging on bass is a force to be reconded with. They sound good recorded, but are even better live! This album shows us there talent."
A Bonus to the "Physical Presence" LP
Eric T. Peterson | 04/17/2005

"Being a bass player, and a huge Level 42 fan, I brought the CD as a collector's item. Well, to me , it's more than a collector's item!! The CD contains 4 songs that are "not" on the LP: which are: "The Chant Has Begun," "The Chinese Way," "Hot Water," "Living It Up," oh, I forgot, the fifth song, "Love Games." Now, 2 songs that are on the LP are not on the CD, which are; "Turn it On," and the ever so funky "Mr. Pink." If you have the LP, KEEP IT!! Add the CD to it. It's worth every penny. Those 5 bonus songs on the CD is nothing more than amazing!! Mark King really shines on the tracks, with Mike Linup on Keys, the Gould Brothers (Boon on guitar and Phil on Drums) with the backing of Krys Machs on Saxophones. Check out the track "Love Games." Mark and Mike did a medley of "Dune Tune" at the beginning and Mark did his ferousous bass solo then jump into the song!! Bass Players, This guy CAN PLAY!!! (Made me get my bass!) If you are a Level 42 fan, this is "A MUST HAVE" in your collection! Also check out the LIVE AT WEMBLEY CONCERT. It's on DVD now. I have the VHS version, Worth every penny. I hope this review was helpful to you."
