on this collection, I should add.I'm not a blues scholar, but this is my second helping to Messrs. Carr and Blackwell, and its well worth it. These guys were 'bluesmen' in the best and deepest sense of the word. Of the 14 tracks, Leroy has the first 10 and gives us his excellent voice and mellow piano playing (with the hiss and pop that partially makes the sound of old blues recordings so distinct). Poor Scrapper only gets the last four tracks, but they are excellent and he accompanies himself on guitar - these tracks are 'clean' and free of hiss. When I hear the old bluesmen, I thank god someone had the sense to record them." |
