"The tunes are beautifully played, even though most of them were not done in a studio and not "synthesized" or "mixed".
The songs ( a mix of klezmer, jewish folk, and chassidic ) are an eclectic survey of Jewish music. ( I studied for several years with Leon, and he would always emphasize to me how all music must be treated with respect, from the boom box to classical ).
Because the songs were not produced in a studio, it gives the feeling of immediacy, like being in the musician's dining room while he is playing.
Having been out of touch with Leon for a while before he passed on, I have only just recently discovered this CD. I bought a copy for myself, and am in the process of ordering several more for friends. The songs range from melancholy hassidic tunes to quick wedding dance tunes. They are beautiful and I am glad that Leon preserved these tunes and that Michael Alpert et al has helped to produce this CD. I say go out and buy it !"
