Synopsis

Album Description
As the American pianist Leon Fleisher accepts the 2007 Kennedy Center Honor and prepares for a year of celebrations of his 80th birthday, Sony BMG Masterworks announces the release of The Essential Leon Fleisher, a commemorative anthology that features highlights from his greatest recordings. The 2-CD set features recordings never before released on CD - the 1963 recording with the Juilliard String Quartet of the Scherzo from the Brahms Piano Quintet in F Minor and the opening movement (Molto moderato) of the Schubert Sonata in B-Flat Major, Fleisher's first recording for Columbia Masterworks in 1954.

"Absolutely incredible piano play on this CD reflects Leon Fleisher's talent and virtuosity. It's very challenging stuff.

I am a collector of all of George Szell's music. His musical interpretations of many orchestral pieces is right on target.

I am fascinated by the incredible speed an accuracy of both Szell's orchestra and Leon Fleischer's piano playing on this CD. The depth of music on here is awesome.

This CD is talent at its best."
