Almost perfect

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Lauren Kennedy's CD is filled with wonderful new works that are a joy to listen to. She knows how to tell a story, and she has a beautiful voice to back it up. It great to hear many songs that have never been recorded, or are hard to find. My one complaint is that some of the keys seem to be set a little low--that is, she seems to have a bit of a hard time hitting the lower notes. Particularly in "Through the Mountain" from Floyd Collins, which starts off pretty low, and feels a bit like she's really reaching for those notes. Once the song gets going, and the notes are more in her range, though, it's absolutely beautiful. Standouts are "My Lifelong Love," "Just Not Now," and "You'll Want Me To Shine" all of which she sings clearly and beautifully, and she nails the dramatic aspect of the songs as well. Definitely worth buying."
