"This is a very curious offering. And I'm as confused as a half-drunken monkey about the entire thing. There are four "songs" on this cd. They are wacky, silly, occasionally amusing, touching, and in one instance (track number four) spiritual. What is going on? I wouldn't have a clue about this bizarre cd if it weren't for another one of my inspired make-fun-of-wife-number-five moments. That's right: Song number three is a special little ditty Bessie's heard me sing to my in laws before. This disc comes off sounding like a bizarre cross between Bruce Cockburn (not to be confused with an ailment I came down with south of the border), Jimmy Buffett, and Warren Zevon (except for the last track, which I suspect was included by mistake). There are only four songs, but the first three almost make it worth purchasing (the fourth what I think may be a poorly rendered gospel number). The first track is about either an envious or extremely intoxicated chicken. Either way, it's a good one and a real toe-tapper. Song two is a ridiculous number about a cat who's (big surprise) curious and (bigger surprise) stoopid. The third number (I call it "Bessie's Tune") is all about how ugly dogs need loooove too. A truer sentiment has never appeared on cd (and I have all the Red House Painters' cds). Still, I'm not certain my doggish spouse got the joke. Oh well. HHD."
