A 1970's record collectors dream
03/16/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Laura Allan made this debut album in the mid 1970's with the assistance of Los Angeles' hottist musicians of the day. Players like Leland Sklar, (James Taylor's Band, Jackson Browne and Phil Collins...not to menion: Billy Cobham and many more), the wonderful, late, Jeff Porcaro of Toto fame..., Waddy Wachtel (Linda Ronstadt), Billy Payne ( Litle Feat), Chuck Rainy (Steeley Dan) and David Lindley who plays multilple instruments...specifically "Lap Steel" and Violin on the well known Jackson Browne LP, "Running on Empty".This is a recent re-issue of an almost forgotten jewel here in the USA....however well known in all of China and the Far East as well as Japan, VividSound Corp. in conjunction with Celeste Records of Japan has reissued this amazing debut album of completely original songs by Laura Allan on CD.....and to the credit of everyone at this label, they have included 10.....yes, that's right, TEN BONUS TRACKS on this compilation....which showcase Allan in a truely magical light, cutting these songs completely live during a 4 day stint at the famed "Clover Studios" in Hollywood, CA. This is where "the BOSS" (Bruce Springsteen) recorded "The River".. and used the same producer. This CD reissue features an awesome collection of originals written by a young (16 yr. old) rising star... from a time we, as a music community, still aspire to match. I would recommend this album to any and all who love good music and great original songs.!"
Laura Allan...An Amazing Talent!
Sharon J. Rossum | Hollywood, California USA | 06/01/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I owned this (vinyl) album during my High School years (back in the 70's)! I LOVED it! I used to play it over and over again. I especially liked the song, "Hole in My Bucket"! It is a beautiful love song (about a love that you really never got over, still miss, and can't help comparing to all the other relationships in your life). Laura Allan's voice is sweet and magical. Her "sound" is a mixture of Folk, Rock, Adult Contemporary and a hint of Country. Her songs are honest, straightforward, and expose the core of raw human emotion. If you enjoy the music of Joni Mitchell, Jewel, or Ricki Lee Jones, you'll be amazed at the timeless talent of Laura Allan! You'll also be amazed (as I was) that this talented artist isn't a bigger STAR!"
