Romantic without the Sappy

"Lead singer Eric Brace is a fine writer for the Washington Post, but after hearing him and Last Train Home, you want to recommend he quit his day job. This disc is full of southern twang and east-coast hipness, with songs that'll make you tap your toes and clutch your heart. One of the best live shows in the DC area. Hopefully the rest of the country will hear them live soon."

"Quite by chance, I heard them performing at a Borders last winter and I was rocking 'round the store. Reminded me so much of the 70s California rock that I grew up on, but updated just enough. Doughnut Girl is my absolute favorite, but they are all excellent "turn the stereo up and clean the house or boogie down the highway" songs. I heard them comment on another album they were going to be working on--I think I remember the lead singer saying it was a tribute album to someone (can't remember who, a senior moment here) but it was someone I knew of and it sparked my interest in them even further. Does anyone else know something about this? At any rate, a great album for boomers who can't stand the whining songs now so popular/prevalent."

"Last Train Home is a roots rock band, not country. If you love country music, you may not like this, for roots rock is a derivative of country, and not in a bad way. LTH has bluegrass, country, soul, and rock-n-roll influences. When LTH blends them together, and you get a wonderful smooth feeling that leaves you satiated all day long."
