CD Reviews

They don't make them like this anymore
David Michael Cohen | California | 08/29/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I used to watch "Hot Fudge" as a child, and every episode ended with a dialogue and a duet with Larry and Seymour. These sequences were a signature point of the show. This CD recaptures their magic. Seymour and Larry's relationship was clearly one of friendship. Their interactions implied that Seymour was a child (hard to tell for certain with furry green people who live in trees), but Larry never talks down to Seymour and Seymour appreciates Larry's mature wisdom. Most children shows try to convey this type of thing when children and adults interact, but few succeed as well. Most of the songs on the CD's have lead-in dialogue between the two of them which emphasizes their friendly relationship and provides context for the song. The songs, incidentally, are a lot of fun, and they are meaningful without being heavy handed. Again, something rare in children's media. They deal with themes of dealing with disappointment (Life Works Out), respecting other people (In One Ear And Out The Other), keeping a positive outlook (I Look For The Sun), and of course celebrating friendship (We're A Team). My highest recommendations!"
