Synopsis

Product Description
Nozero has been hailed, rightfully so, as the premier saxophonist in Michigan. He has created his own gigs in various clubs in the suburbs, played annually at Montreux/ Detroit, and was recently named music director for northern Michigan's Grand Hotel. Undoubtedly, this is Nozero's finest recording to date. Nozero's Bird-cum-Richie Cole alto sounds better than ever, a bit dry but always robust and full. And he's also a great flutist. Three original compositions by the brilliant young bassist Paul Keller are complemented by Nozero's perky interpretations of "Slow Boat to China" and "Pick Yourself Up." Also included are "Hold 'Em Joe" and Jim Stefanson's "Down the Line" which transcend the hard bop framework. Stefanson, a legendary saxophonist who is now confined to a wheelchair and currently teaches and plays harmonica, is a unique composer whose other works will amaze. Terry Lower's sensitive piano and the precise drumming of Jim Ryan further solidify Nozero's distinct group sound. Michael G. Nastos, WEMU / Jazz Times Magazine
