Rockabilly & Country-Pop From NewYork City and Sweden

"Larry Finnegan was one of those country rockers with a smooth voice like Buddy Knox and Carl Mann."Dear One" was unfortunately his first and only hit.On this album,we get all of his "Old Town" recordings from the early sixties, plus recordings he made in Sweden, sung in German. The A-sides of his singles on "Old Town" were all worthy of radio play.If you like 'Dear One',you'll certainly enjoy his version of 'Oh!Lonesome Me' which features the same rolling piano solo as 'Dear One'.'Pretty Suzy Sunshine' features a soulful sax intro and solo and was the follow-up single to 'Dear One',although the fact that it's so different may have been why it wasn't a hit.'Pick Up The Pieces' is a straight country song that I remember hearing on my local Country station in 1963.

As for the Swedish recordings, they show Larry as a much more mature singer and although I don't understand German, they feature what was Country-Pop Nashville fare in the late sixties. The production and the sound is flawless.

If you enjoy the above mentioned Knox and Mann and if you're interested in 1960's Pop-Country like Johnny Tillotson,Roy Orbison or Brenda Lee,you've gotta get this CD!"
Perhaps you have the same misconception that I had:

"For years I've had a decent memory of the great song 'Dear One': most of the lyrics and melody, but for some reason,(well, there's a -great- resemblance), I remembered it as being a Del Shannon tune. By the time you're here, that misconception has probably never existed or has been been cleared up for you, too, but just in case, now you know: That's who Finnegan is; a great singer."
