Product DescriptionRecognized by The Chicago Tribune as a ?major talent,? Larry Bell?s music has been widely performed in the United States and abroad by such orchestras and ensembles as the Seattle Symphony, RAI Orchestra of Rome, Juilliard Philharmonia and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Bell received his DMA from Juilliard, having studied with Vincent Persichetti and Roger Sessions. He is currently chair of the music theory department at the New England Conservatory of Music. He writes in a wonderfully eclectic style that exhibits post-modern techniques and a reliance on the older folk forms he calls ?Southern-inspired music.? Two of his most important orchestral works, Sacred Symphonies and the Idumea Symphony, are beautiful, strikingly kaleidoscopic works in the best Ivesian tradition. A renowned pianist, Bell presents here a recital of his highly original piano music. The vocal works of Larry Bell can also be heard on Albany Records (TROY741).
