"I am a one woman advocate for this opera. Regularly performed in Italy, it has a sincere and unaffected charm and beauty all its own. The music is uplifting and like a breath of summer. There are also many dramatic moments, the aria "Non mi resta" is filled with anguish. And the moment when they realize they love each other has the ebullience and joy of true love. Then when her theme from the aria "Son Pochi Fiori" comes in after their love duet, it is the perfect moment of love's fullfillment. There are so many wonderful moments in this opera. Suzel's duet with the "meddling" Rabbi "Facea si Vecchio Abramo" is so sweet and sincere. The "Cherry Duet" is breathtaking, and you'll never hear a better rendition. Freni and Pavarotti are in great voice here- young and fearless. A must buy for any true opera fan!"
