CD Reviews

Dare I say better without Scott?
David Brimer | Hollywood, Ca United States | 05/28/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The self titled L.A. Express album that came after the great "Tom Cat" album was the first not to feature Tom Scott on sax. Intial thoughts have to wonder if the album is truely valid seeing as "The LA Express" was essentially Tom Scott's backing band, but first listens give a clear answer. This album smokes! With the edition of Victor Feldman on keyboards (adding that touch of class that made his contributions to the Steely dan records just shine) and a more confidant sounding Robben Ford on guitar, The L.A. Express burn through the tunes with an intensity and sophistication unheard up to this point. As the album goes by it becomes more apparent that this isn't a pop fusion record in the vein of the Crusaders, but a genuine jazz/fusion classic. I would recommend this album to anyone who enjoys the the lighter side of fusion."

"This Is One Of My Favorite Fusion Album From The Seventies Now On Cd. Features The Great Victor Feldman On Keyboards & Max Bennett On Bass & John Guerin On Drums & David Luell On Saxophones & Robben Ford On Guitar! This Is L.A. Express With No Tom Scott? But It Is Five Star Fusion At Is Best."
