CD Reviews

Glad to see it back in print
Grant M. Israel | Denver, CO | 01/13/2005

"The release date leads me to believe this gem is still in print, which is a great thing, seeing as how it my favorite of Kurt's albums and the hardest to find. The last track, B Blues, is a simple, but mysterious and somewhat perplexing 12 bar blues that is simply some of the best trio work I've ever heard... just guitar, bass and drums. Playing live at in New York, the trio are perfect together and it is a terrific way to become exposed to this guitarist confounding and beuatiful playing, while he was still a very green player."
Catch him in a more traditional context

"Kurt's music has really taken off in great directions, as he can compose so well in so many different styles. This record, though, is a perfect way to hear him in a more traditional context, playing more traditional jazz. Don't worry though, it's still Kurt and it will knock your socks off. He pulls off runs in a way that is his own, and fills the empty spaces with such finely shaded colors. What an amazing talent...such a pleasure to hear him on a record without much production, and in such great musical company."
More Trio Kurt!

"What a record! This is my favorite recording and context for his playing (and I have heard all he's recorded for the public). So very very good: I just got it yesterday and I can't take it off. The title cut (which [is it just me?] rings of Goodbye Pork Pie Hat), is alone worth whatever price you have to pay. Hats off to Jorge Rossy too (as always).

Seriously, I hope he explores the trio setting again and again in what is sure to be a long career. It is so rare these days to hear a voice like this, where you know instantly that you're hearing a guy in for the long haul! Beautiful."
