A little better than that rating suggests

(4 out of 5 stars)

"highly enjoyable, razor sharp indie-dance, a'la the faint after being beamed to the planet knodel and forced to learn 50 billion years worth of advanced space-travelling technology then returned to earth whereupon all that knowledge just turns to weirdness and kitsch. this is a band that loves to sing about themselves (i.e. "knodel blaster," "knodel rocks," "knodel's gonna take you home" ), and if you can imagine what songs with such titles would sound like, you've got the knodel sound. they once got a song called "do it," included on a CMJ sampler cd--the song is on their first album, the insanely genius cult-hit _white hole_--which was a revamping of the super mario "underground" theme, wherein they basically just sang about doing it with their adoring fans. great stuff."
