Amazon.com After a tenure in Sergio Mendez's Brazil '99, Brazilian vocalist Kleber Jorge struck off on his own and took a page from his former boss's playbook with him. Here the songwriter mixes catchy pop melodies, highly polished jazz arrangements and the rhythmic underpinning of bossa nova and other Latin rhythms, comfortably fitting it all into the MPB genre (Brazilian pop music). Jorge ups the ante with a warm, slightly nasal voice that recalls the sensual groan of Vinicius Cantuaria while steadfastly sticking to his own music's pop leanings. His second album, Trovador is actually a slightly revamped version of 1999's Voltar pro Rio, with some of the fat (two songs in English) trimmed off and adds some muscle. Of the 11 songs, the English language "Camera" isn't Jorge's best work. Stronger are such gems as the newly added "Tarde Morna," the impossibly infectious "Valtar Pro Rio" and the bossa nova-leaning "Assim Nao Da." CD ReviewsTrovador Robert Aguilar | Tomball.Texas | 03/05/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "What a pleasant surprise.I had the pleasure of playing with this artist while living in burbank california.Mr.Jorge is not only a beautiful human being , but also a very gifted guitarist and vocalist.To the unfortunate many who have not experienced rio ( including myself) firsthand , upon listening to each of the tracks on this cd you are instantly taken to brazil.Kleber Jorge's music is authentic brazilian.He is very accomplished on his instrument as well as his voice.I recommend this one highly.This one instanly puts me in a great mood.Thanks Kleber! This release is a re-issue of 'Voltar Pro Rio'. You can probably buy the old one for $3 used and save $12. The CD is worth the $6 I paid for just one track: Nana das Aguas - it is a brilliant composition and performance (covered also, quite brilliantly, by Kevyn Lettau on her own CD). The rest of the CD is rather mediocre songwriting although the production and performance overall is quite good. I only listen to the one track but if you don't have any Ivan Lins or Sergio Mendes CD's or Dori Caymmi or many other superior works to listen to, you might enjoy this CD. Buy it for Nana das Aguas alone and you will not be disappointed." |
