CD Reviews

Finally This Album Was Made
Cory T. Shaeffer | Pittsburgh | 07/22/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Kim Sozzi has graced the dance charts with several big dance hits, including 2001's "Feelin Me" and more recently "Alone," but no full length album was previously available. The latter of her two previous hit songs is present on this album, albeit only as a remix. The remainder of the tracks are mainly new songs, including a great electro-trance cover of Vixen's "Edge of a Broken Heart." What is great about this album is the fact that, like with Kristine W's latest CD, she does not try hard at all to be hip; there is plenty of retro beats and drum synths here - and - mark this down: SHE DOES NOT RELY ON THAT STUPID VOCODER.

Sozzi's vocals are far more superior to those of many popular dance artists, as she is geared in to singing this particular style of music, and that suits her just fine. There really is not a bad track on here, but one does wish after waiting so long for this, that there would be a little more music on this disc. But this is not just a compilation album of her past songs; there is some substance here. And, given the fact that the last few albums by dancefloor giants Britney and Madonna contained about two or three good tracks and about 10 tracks of worthless filler, this album by Sozzi makes for a very engaging listen. There are enough hooks here to make this purchase worthwhile......and the latest dance albums by Kristine W (Power of Music), Cyndi Lauper (last summer's magnificent "Bring Ya To The Brink), and now this one by Sozzi, should have the Madonna/Britney entorages a little worried. There is better music out there than what is being offered up by those who are "Seeking Amy," and this album is an example of that. This is a professional dance-oriented pop album by a professional trance-pop vocalist. For fans of Cascada, Tina Cousins, Milk Inc. do not pass this up."

Next Gaga

"She has a unique voice just like Gaga, the problem here is that her dance music is too generic and definitely no where near as creative as Gaga's Fame. If she can hire a better producer and DJ to mix up some non-generic tunes, she will sell platinum level for sure."
