Album Description

Pictures from Spain is the debut CD from The Kevin Townson Band. It is a collection of original compositions featuring the high-energy sounds of the Spanish Rumba combined with the softness of Latin jazz. The group has undergone many changes since its inception back in 1996, but has maintained its unique flamenco/jazz roots which can be heard throughout this CD.

Flamenco fantastico

"In the spirit of faux-flamenco music ala Strunz and Farah, Ottmar Liebert and the Gypsie Kings, the Kevin Townson group bring their infectious latin groves to the forefront of the genre with their debut release, Pictures of Spain. From the opening track, Gypsy Desire (a homage to The Gypsy Kings?) Kevin Townson's quartet grabs the listener with a tight, infectious groove and solid guitar work that sets the tone for the rest of the disc. Tracks Aster's Flight and Stampede will jump out at the listener with their energetic rhytmic ferocity. Rhythm section components Philippe Baugh (bass) and Warren Dewey (percussion) hold down the group with solid, non-pervasive work. Every track a winner."
