Album DescriptionThe Keith Javors Quartet combines the talents of the original Keith Javors/Dane Bays duo project (Mantra, BP-1001) with two equally formidable musicians from Detroit. In the vein of the Motor City's musical tradition, the group conveys a fiery hard-bop/progressive jazz style that at times hints towards black soul music. These characteristics are evident in the quartet's debut album From Here To The Street (KJM 1971), recorded in November of 1999. The recording features eight original compositions by Javors, who is an esteemed and prolific composer of small group music. ""The Street" is about my collaboration with musicians who learned in an authentic way, in a city that has produced some of my favorite rhythm sections stylistically. The record encourages a return to simpler, streetsmart ideals in jazz music," states Javors.
