Synopsis

Album Description
New release by Kay Kay and the Rays on the Deep South Soul label produced by Johnny Rawls. Johnny Rawls and Andrew "Jr Boy" Jones appear as guest artists. Kay Kay has already been called "a soul diva of the highest grade" and her voice described as "incredible" and "a righteous turn on". This is Soul music with a capital S rooted in blues with jazz and funk influences. Kay Kay is backed by a rhythm section described as "rock-solid" and a horn section led by Andy Roman, who has been called the "best alto player in Texas". All original music that attacks social injustice in the tradition of Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield. Her first album got great reviews but this one takes it to the next level.

CD Reviews

Great New CD
02/04/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The great voice of Kay Kay Greenwade is backed by The Rays, a very solid rhythm and blues group. Andrew "Junior Boy" Jones appears as a guest artist along with Johnny Rawls, who also co-produced the album and gives it his trademark soul sound with a jazzy, funky edge. This CD is where Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye were headed, it is that good. One of the best new blues releases of this or any year. Highly recommended."

"Great comtemporary blues. Kay Kay is in complete control ! Great horn section, too. Anxious for the next release! My rating is actually 4.5 stars.... nothing is perfect, but this comes close."
