Synopsis

Product Description
The song Big Bad Girl says she was six foot one with three inch heels. That was Kay Kay, the big woman with the big voice who could bring the crowd to its feet cheering. The Australian weekly music publication Inpress described her as a cross between Koko Taylor and Aretha Franklin as it wrote the best of the 25,000 person, sold out, five day East Coast Blues and Roots Festival was a photo finish between Dr John, Solomon Burke and Kay Kay and the Rays. The same article wrote that "the Rays were wild and smokin' with a dynamo sax player." The band broke up in 2004 but the songs on this album remind us that they truly were "a seamless blend of soul and funk." Their songs often were social commentary and sometimes created controversy. The Rays are still around, recording as the studio band for Catfood Records. This album is a reminder of what was and what could have been if Kay Kay and the Rays were still together.
