Synopsis

Product Description
With a sound that carries a blast of Southern California in 1970 filtered through Northern England in 2008, the core of Katy Lied is the alliance between guitarist/songwriter Duncan Hamilton and vocalist/guitarist Dan Britton. Since the two met in a guitar shop two years ago the seed has been growing, and the styles and sound they ve been shaping are now ready for the world to hear. They have since been joined by drummer Paul Burgess, who has worked both live and in session with acts ranging from 10cc and the Icicle Works to Joan Armatrading, and by bassist Ian Thomson (ex Coal Porters and Lindisfarne). Driven by chiming guitars and classic cut-to-the-chase songwriting val- ues, the Katy Lied debut album Late Arrival brims with hooks and musical muscle. Dan s earnest, from-the-heart delivery (often compared to Mike Scott or an English Tom Petty) is the perfect complement to Duncan s tight, melodic songs. The album opens with the full-on roots rocking title track and takes a few stylistic detours - the feelgood an- themic thrust of Coming Soon and Everytime You Call My Name , the darker, almost funky Crash And Burn which points a loaded lyri- cal gun at sexed-up political opportunists - and finishes with the pared down, exquisite after-hours gem Waltz For Beginners . The esteem in which Katy Lied s material is held is affirmed by the special guests contributing to the record... Al Perkins, three time Grammy winning pedal steel player who played on the classic Gram Par- sons records of the 1970s, makes a guest appearance on the album on the country tinged The Distance . Current chart and internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter Thea Gilmore contributes backing vocals to several tracks and Beeb Birtles, ex singer/songwriter and guitar- ist with the multi million selling Australian band Little River Band also contributes vocals. The album was produced by Nigel Stonier, the multi-instrumentalist/ songwriter/producer who has collaborated with a range of artistes from Mike Scott and the Waterboys to Thea Gilmore, Clare Teal and Fairport Convention.
