JVA should be damn proud of this latest CD. When I describe JVA's music to friends I find it hard to capture. Here is my attempt at a review:"I am not an art critic but I know what I like" AND I like!A the risk of getting it wrong and offending I would say this album has eerie Tom Waits-like ambience juxtaposed with graceful melody and driving rhythms. The performances are captured with crystal clarity and the execution is laser precise --- though that suggests rigidity and that isn't what I mean. What I mean is that the play is what you groovy dogs (or is that dawgs? All I know is it seems to be the mot du jour in American Idol) call "tight." The "enhancement" (i.e. Bradford Johnson's video) is mind blowing. I do hope JVA gets the recognition they deserve for this and prior work." |
