Jussi In Stereo
Rocco R. Seeno | 07/14/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This 1959 recital disc, with orchestra, is an excellent addition for the Jussi-phile. Although in stereo, the sound is distant so the volume has to be turned up. Performances are excellent save for the strange addition of the Lehar. One wonders why he recorded that instead of another Italian aria. However, the voice is magnificent,in every register. The writer of the notes on his Decca Cavalleria Rusticana recording (four excerpts are presented on this disc) stated that he thought he had lost a bit of the upper register. Poppycock! It is all there for us to hear. It would be wonderful if Decca updated this disc with a remastered sound. However, if that's not possible, this will do nicely."
Best recordings ever of all these tenor arias
Hugo Marcos Rodriguez | Miami, FL USA | 10/18/2009

"I'm not going to write a lot about good ol' Jussi's qualities. Since the first time I heard as a child this incomparable tenor in a recording (I could never hear him in person) I understood I was listening to the greatest singer that ever existed. Absolute perfection in every sense.

But this CD is very special. Bjoerling recorded these same arias several times during his career, but at this moment, summer of 1957 at Firenze, Italy, while he was recording Cavalleria Rusticana with Renata Tebaldi, Ettore Bastianini and conductor Alberto Erede,he was at the absolute peak of his game.

Each one of the arias in this CD is THE BEST VERSION EVER RECORDED BY ANY TENOR,period. Even Bjoerling himself could never do better than this.

This recording is becoming kind of a rarity, it took me a lot of time to find it at Internet. I got a very good used copy through Amazon.com. So, Bjoerling fans, go ahead try to find it, this is Jussi's best CD!!."
