Synopsis

Product Description
Paying true homage to their 80s post-punk roots, dark rockers Jupiter Crash deliver their odes to darkness, passion, beauty & truth in a powerful epic fashion reminiscent of an early Cult. Borrowing heavily from the Brit-pop era, but not entrapped by it, this group of seasoned musicians delivers nostalgic rock-and-roll with more than enough revolutionary flair to keep things interesting. Since 'crashing' into the Northwest music scene with their 2005 debut EP, "Fell From the Hotel," and its addictive single "Metro," Jupiter Crash has been turning heads, bending ears and blowing minds with slew of shows in and around their native Seattle, as well as airplay on a variety of college, internet and underground radio stations. Encouraged by the buzz, the band wasted no time in recording their first full-length CD "The Skin Before the Art" at Seattle's legendary London Bridge Studios in 2006. A touch more punk-rock and less brit-pop than its predecessor, "The Skin Before the Art" is evidence of the band's versatility and staying-power in a fickle and ever-changing musical climate. Lyrically dark on the surface, each track upon closer listen is laced with insight and hope. Frontman Steven Parsons delivers his impassioned vocals with a throaty depth that calls to mind the uniqueness of such instantly recognizable vocalists as Michael Stipe, Ian Astbury, and Justin Sullivan. Combined with the backdrop of fierce and flawless rhythm provided by Bill Morgen on bass and T on the drums -- it's not surprising comparisons have been drawn to such acts as Killing Joke, Lords of the New Church, The Cult and even The Smiths -- but the Jupiter Crash boys ultimately offer up their self-proclaimed 'Good Time Devil Music' in a valiant style all their own!

CD Reviews

Buy Now, Love it, and join the Revolution!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"While Jupiter Crash's influences certainly shine through, "The Skin Before the Art" smashes through any nostalgia leaving us stunned with an album possessing a rock-solid punch with grit and power true to the revolutionary spirit of rock and roll.

Front man Steven Parsons delivers with driving passion (Dark Surprise / Sinners and Losers) and intelligent reflection (Waiting for a Sign / Too Much); while Bill Morgen on bass and Steven Tomich provide the basis for the revolution (now joined by Lee Tillman on guitars).

Buy now, love it, and join the revolution!"
A Smashing (Crashing??) Debut!
Violet Light | Washington, USA | 02/01/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Although Jupiter Crash refers to themselves as a "post-punk" band, I'd put them squarely into a harder, more guitar-driven category such as "dark rock." Musically, the tracks on this CD range from heavier boot-stomping rock, to mellower brooding ballads -- and the vocals are deep, unique and intense, but never overpower the music itself.

Stand-out tracks that shine through on this great full-length debut are "Dark Surpise," "Descent," "Cry out Loud" and "The Waking Hours," but it's one of those rare CDs that I never feel compelled to skip a track on. If you're into dark rock bands such as The Cult, Audioslave, 30 Seconds to Mars, Queens of the Stone Age and HIM, this one's probably for you!"
