CD Reviews

Great Music from an Underrated Artist!

"I love this CD. I'm surprised there are not more reviews about this CD. I bought 'The Best of Junior' a few years ago because I wanted the song 'Mama Used To Say' and I knew there was also another song that I liked of his and that song is 'Too Late'. These songs came out when I was in 2nd grade. I have a child that is now in the 2nd grade and that is what made me decide to now write this review.

When I first bought this CD I had no idea what to expect, except for 'Mama Used To Say' and then 'Too Late'. Those are two great songs with great music and heart felt, thought provoking lyrics. Even better is that these are the 12" versions of the songs so you can groove to them even longer. I recently got the music videos for these two songs and that brought back memories.

The rest of the CD is great too. Other song highlights for me are 'Oh Louise', 'I Can't Help It' and 'Somebody'. You can groove and relax to this CD at home or while driving."

"Is This The Best?"

"Junior is one of the greatest black britsh artists of the 1980's (along with 52nd Street, Loose Ends, and Five Star) that was heavily marketed toward American R&B/Soul fans, but still underated. Since he deserved that much, I have a small bone to pick with this compilation cd....and I promise that the review is not as crucial as his American counterpart's, O'Bryan's compilation.

I was just about to purchase this cd, until I looked at the track listing and I noticed that "Is This Love" from his 1982 debut album was missing. That is my favorite song by Junior and should have been included on the Best Of cd. I may be 24 years old, but I know my old school and I know what I like. Ok, it was'nt a single, but it should have been on there. If time contraints was an issue, then the 12 inch longer versions on all the songs (except for "Mama Use To Say" cause that version was the best) should have been replaced with album/7 inch versions. That is why I took away a star from this cd. I will just have to download this song and include that with "Mama Use To Say", "Too Late", "Do You Really Want My Love", "Unison", and "Oh Lousie" on my ipod."
