CD Reviews

Andrews and Burnett bring down the house at Carnegie Hall
Lawrance M. Bernabo | The Zenith City, Duluth, Minnesota | 04/02/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett did their Emmy award winning special "Julie & Carol at Carnegie Hall" in 1962. At that point Andrews was the reigning musical star of Broadway with "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot" on her resume, while Burnett had enjoyed success with "Once Upon a Mattress" and her appearances on "The Gary Moore Show." Consequently, what makes this concert so wonderful is that the two stars on still on the way up, having big time fun. The track listings for "Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall" are as follows: (1) No Mozart Tonight; (2) Your So London; (3) Oh Dear What Can the Matter Be; (4) From Russia: The Nausiev Ballet; (5) Meantime; (6) From Switzerland: The Prat Family; (7) History of Musical Comedy (my favorite track); and (8) From Texas: "Big D." Note: the soundtrack for the album was recorded before a live audience BEFORE the show was taped for broadcast, so if you are fortunate enough to have the sho won videotape you are getting something a little different with this CD. This is still one of the Top 10 musical variety television specials of all time."
