CD Reviews

Jubilant is not just his name
Queen Deb | Raleigh, NC | 01/27/2002

"Jubilant Sykes was in Raleigh, NC performing with the NC Symphony. My parents accompanied me to this concert. Mr. Sykes has a wonderful voice and a beautiful spirit that shines through with each note he sings. His rendition of "A City Called Heaven" was the best I have ever heard. I am a singer of Negro Spirituals and my standards are high. His background in various genres of music has enriched his delivery. My mother who is handicapped and rarely gets out was truly uplifted after attending this concert. If you've never experienced Jubilant Sykes, you've missed something great. Jubilant is not just his name! You will truly be jubilant! May God continue to bless him. We were blessed to have been in his presence!"
Jubilant over Jubilant!

"I saw Jubilant Sykes perform live not long ago and his voice and performance sent chills through me, it was so beautiful. When his CD came out I bought it immediately and I was not disappointed. His talent is immense and his love of God and music shines forth with every song! In particular, "A City Called Heaven" is one of the most magnificent performances I've ever heard. If you love beautiful, inspirational music buy this CD! You will NOT be disappointed!"

"What an outstanding singer and CD! I first heard about him on NPR a month ago. JUBILANT is a set of spirituals that are done in a jazz style. Some new and traditional. While a baritone, he can reach both bass and tenor notes with comfort and real ease. He is primarily a classical artist having sung opera at the Met and in Europe, but he has such a tendor style that he holds back when appropriate and knocks the socks off notes when it is right. The CD has upright bass, trumpet, guitar musicians with him and more. Just fantastic!"
