"It's Britain's turn to celebrate what WFMU's Irwin Chusid and Combustible Edison's Brother Cleve started - a well deserved revival of Mexico's quirkiest musical genius. With an excellent mix of his work dating 1956-1967, a great cover concept, and ...well, the liner notes could be a bit better... the unheralded coordinator of this collection has put together a fine set-piece of listening. Some of the tracks have not been on any previous CD reissue - always a treat for hardcore enthusiasts of El Maestro. Apparently the British interest was sparked by the use of the classic track "Miniskirt" in a car commercial. It must have been a howl of a spot! Maybe the spooky cover of Earle Hagen's "Harlem Nocturne" shouldn't have been the last track, however. I'd say an upbeat offering like "Yeyo" would have done the trick more nicely. Then again, that's why 'god' gave you the RESHUFFLE option on your CD player! So reshuffle, put on that velvet smokin' jacket, and baila con el maestro en Sonorama"
Fun, but not enough Esquivel

"
Too many tunes written by others for me to really enjoy this as an Esquivel experience. I prefer his recordings of his own tunes, of which there are few on this CD."
