CD Reviews

Somewhere in space between Detroit and Berlin...
DAC Crowell | 07/06/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a lovely, wonderful release...something of a summit meeting between Detroit innovator Juan Atkins and the German duo of Moritz von Oswald and de facto Orb member Thomas Fehlmann. And not only does that describe the players, it also describes the sound. Sci-fi jazziness from Tha D meets mid-stream with lush, groovy Berlin tranciness. And a couple of the tracks on here are pretty critical, especially 'Jazz is the Teacher', which appears in mixes with and without Juan at the controls. This will appeal to quite a few people, especially those who like a good listening groove; if you like Sun Electric, or the jazzier side of Detroit techno, this is a must-get. The only downside here is the length...40-ish minutes, and really only four tracks...ergo, docked one star. Surely there was other stuff in the Tresor vaults from this threesome to go on this CD? Ah, well...get it anyway. You will not be disappointed."
Atkins at work with two other Techno Dons - stunning!

"Juan Atkins, Thomas Fehlmann (of The Orb), and Mauritz Von Oswald (notable for Schizophrenia/Tresor 3 - a fantastic track), work together on this ep. I can assure you this is wonderful stuff, just as good as any of the Model500 material. The standout track here must surely be Die Kosmischen Kuriere. I cannot begin to describe how truely beautiful this track is. It has possibly the most amazing melody I have ever heard, and it blew me away completely when I first heard it (specifically the 3mb mix - there is also another mix on Tresor 2, different to both of those featured here). Unmissable."
