JuJu B Solomon is the self-titled debut album and musical moniker of Benjamin Solomon. In 2002 Solomon moved to India and settled in an obscure industrial city with a job in the textile export industry. There he cultivated ennui, loneliness, and a handful of frank and irreverent song-poems about the sexual geography of India, the alienations of expatriate life, and the hybrid culture of India s westernized youth. Two years later Solomon returned to the states, disenchanted with textiles, fluent in Hindi, and determined to document his experience in the USA with the same sensibility he cultivated abroad; newcomer, outsider, witness. The songs on this album chart this passage, from immigrant to returnee and the nebulous territory in between.
