Synopsis

Album Description
Japanese pressing. In the first sound heard through this album, originally released in 1996, the listener would be put at a typical gafieira ball in Rio: the best orchestral tradition in Brazil, which mixes the strong rhythmic/melodic Brazilian tradition with the orchestral achievements from the jazz big bands and Caribbean grooves. The album opens with a hot, hot, hot samba, followed by a mild son/samba groove. The rest of the wonderful selection of Joyce's originals consists of samba, American grooves, some jazzy solos, embolada-baião, doleful modinha and samba-canção. Deserve especial mention her expressive jazzy vocalise in her 'Feijão com arroz', followed by hot jazz solos. Excellent acoustic production with some of the best musicians of Brazil, great compositions and Joyce's wonderful, swinging vocal interpretation. 14 total tracks. Columbia. 2005.

CD Reviews

Gorgeous songs from Brazil's top songstress.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've been a fan of Joyce's for several years and have a Joyce album for each day of the week. But I believe that this one's my favorite (and that says alot). The songs are among the best she has ever written or recorded, and are performed with her usual jazzy flair. The title track and "Havana Me" stand out as two of the most heart-rendingly beautiful tunes ever created, while "Recieto do Samba" and "Sexy Silvia" are two of the most fun.If you are already familiar with Brazilian bossa nova music you must treat yourself to this one. Joyce is the voice!"
