CD Reviews

Horrible interviews
Young Mario | Washington, DC USA | 01/12/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The interviews on this dic forthe most part have to be run by an EQ to hear the the heck Ian Curtis is saying. As fo the music some track appear in other cds like Still or Les Baines. The Love will tear us Apart track is worth getting the cd for. A good addition to the true Joy Division fans collection."
Some great concert moments, but don't buy for the short inte

(3 out of 5 stars)

"While Young Mario's review of this CD is rather accurate (the interviews are awful... a couple are ok, but many are in a crowded room of people talking, and they are sprinkled throughout as if one idea will lead into the next song, which certainly is not the case) I found the live tracks great to have. I'm also not sure why "Love Will Tear us Apart" was highlighted, especially since the first few seconds was somehow missing, and upcut with some annoying sound bite: "right, we all start when the drum machine starts, lets---" and then the beat FADES in. However, I think the live version of "Ice Age" makes this CD worth it alone; sung in unison w/ other band member(s), this already energetic cut has an extra almost punk edge that reminds me of something Agent Orange would do.

The Amazon review mentions an "eight page fold out full colour cd booklet"... keep in mind that it is an eight PANEL fold-out, meaning four squares total. However it does contain one of the first interviews of the band typed out by Mick Middles in 1978, which was a nice bonus. I'm not going to give this CD a 5-star just because it is Joy Division, which I think some people may be tempted to do. I paid an import price, so if you can find it for around $10 then it's definitely worth it. And of course, for the JD collector/enthusiast."
Big disappointment

"well, I was excited to see interviews, snippets, and band info offered.but the interviews are mostly from some taping in a bar; you can't actually make out much of what is said. What is discernable is uninformative drivel eg,"we just like playin' what we like to play".The songs themselves are live versions, and very rough recordings for the most part, even for live. though 2 or 3 capture good live atmosphere,[so to speak!]toward the end.The album notes have a transcript of another interview which has been censored at interesting bits.I guess if you gotta have, you gotta have it,[hey, I did] but I suggest you save your money for the film."
