Album Description

Jon Durant?s latest album, Brief Light, is a collection of richly textured soundscapes created by on guitar. The CD is a series of impressionistic aural paintings. Several highly regarded collaborators, including bass and stick master Tony Levin, percussionist Vinny Sabatino, pianist Michael Whalen, and renowned guitar-synthesist Randy Roos all add further coloration to the sonic palette.

"Jon Durant's new CD, "Brief Light", is a stunning combination of spacial ECM-esq "new jazz", funky world music, Tony Levin's round and supportive bass, and the breath taking use of minimalist harmonic techniques through the use of gongs, synths, Michael Whaen's subtle piano, and Jon's own guitar "loops". Jon leads us through this sonic landscape by tieing together these elements with his always melodic, sometimes searing, and consistantly lovely textured guitar. It is too bad that radio in the USA will probably not understand this CD (with the exception of "Echo's" John Dileberto) so it will not get the wide audience it deserves. However, take a shot at this beautiful record and rest easy that intelligent music is still being made."
