CD Reviews

Soft ballads with a a warm, elegant voice
Rucho | Buenos Aires, Argentina | 08/12/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Johnny Tillotson has a warm and tender voice, which can be very well appreciated in the ballads included in this CD. It joins two original albums : "Talk Back Trembling Lips" and "The Tillotson Touch". The first one contains the Tillotson's hit Talk Back Trembling Lips, together with some cover versions of songs that became popular by other artists, some are pop classics today, and it is worth hearing them with the personal elegant approach of Johnny Tillotson. My favourite are : Rhythm Of The Rain , one of the sweetest songs ever, an original international hit for '60s band The Cascades ; All Alone Am I , a hit song for Brenda Lee ; I Can't Stop Loving You, very popular by Ray Charles ; Blowin' In The Wind (Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, plus many cover versions in several languages) ; Blue Velvet, a hit for Bobby Vinton. I'm not very fond of most songs in the second album , some of them are well known standards as I've Got You Under My Skin, Always, When I Lost You, although he's also able to sing them very well, they are far from the kind of music I prefer. My favourite songs from "The Tillotson Touch" are I Rise I Fall and Suff'rin From A Headache, this one cowritten by Johnny Tillotson. Excellent sound quality, very good orchestration and fine arrangements added to the naturally sincere and calm voice of Johnny Tillotson, make this CD ideal to listen on a quiet rainy afternoon"
