CD Reviews

Essential For Any Music Collection
K. Brown | Walnut, Ca USA | 01/11/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you have never heard of Johnny Legend, this CD is an appropriate place to start. Johnny spins some of the most offbeat Rockabilly music you will ever hear; it's as if you take a Rockabilly legend like Billy Lee Riley, add a massive dose of modern day pop-culture, and haul it out of the South and into the bright lights of the most gloriously congested city night! Two songs are worth the CD alone: "The Naked Die Young," a melodic ballad hyping the fast-lane lifestyle, and "The South Shall Rise Again," which fans of the cult classic film "2000 Maniacs" will recognize. Johnny's take on this song blows the original version out of the water and into oblivion!Much of Johnny Legend's work is still obscure, from his "Incredibly Strange Rock & Roll Wrestling" feuds with El Físico Nuclear, to his managerial role with the late Dr. Jerry Graham, to his interviews on Jonathan Ross' "Incredibly Strange Film Show." Until these works surface on DVD, his musical legacy will have to suffice for now."

"Amazing, that's my personal definition about this album;there are excellents songs, and the vocals by Johnny are, at the same time, extremely powerfulls(track n14, for ex.), and beautiful, whatYou'll note in track n5.In this album, You'll find a mix of the greatest Rockabilly,Country, and songs that I have sure, will touch your heart, like the wonderful "Lonely Hours", an amazing ballad.Well, if You're fanatic by the Pure and Classic Rock'n Roll, that's the album!!Obs:I have a lot of albuns, and this is one of the bests.Buy It;You won't regret!!"
A Legend He Is.

"Take it from me, this guy is a insane hillbilly and his music is just the same. He would be one of those guys you fear going into a the darkest inbred places in the South. This guy, believe it or not, is a lady's man. I saw him at the Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender. On stage he was wild, rolling all over the ground and he actually played harmonica on one red hot Rockabilly dame's crotch. He ended up with her at the end of the show. I shook his hand. "Man you were great". He replied "Thanks, I've been working on this for a while". He squeezed the chick's behind! This cat is off the hook! This CD has it all. Red hot Rockabilly that will set you on fire. Frankie Lymon from the Doowop band "The Teenagers" sings back up on some tracks. Billy Zoom from the punk band "X" plays guitar on some and Ray Campi plays guitar on others. There is some original songs and some covers of his past career which is phonemenal. B movies and skin flicks and wrestling manager! Hell, he even met Ed Wood when he was a kid and his next door neighbor in his younger days was Tor! Alot of this stuff is from previous albums and B movie soundtracks he's done. For a modern Rockabilly he is good. I don't like most modern Rockabilly. Get this comp, it is the best and comprhensive of his career."
