Born in 1934 in Memphis (he was actually a classmate of Elvis Presley), his first band included brother Dorsey Burnette on bass and the great Paul Burlison on guitar. Unbelievably Sun records refused to sign them, but they were soon snapped up by Coral, where they recorded their first moderate hit 'Tear It Up'.
